Bairagarh police arrested a notorious vehicle thief and recovered a scooter worth Rs 65,000 from his possession on Tuesday.
Under the direction of senior officers, a special campaign is being run for the detection and arrest of criminals and property related crimes and under which on Tuesday Amit Mann of CTO Bairagarh Bhopal lodged a complaint of vehicle theft and on the receipt of the information was shared with police parties and complaint was registered.
During vehicle checking, a person driving a scooty from Sehore naka tried to escape after spotting the police. He was chased and nabbed with scooter bearing registration number UP27AM4962 and when asked to show the documents of the vehicle, he was not able to provide documents. The details of the vehicle were checked on the VDP portal and found that the crime number of the vehicle was a registered vehicle at Bairagarh police station under section 379 of the IPC.
The accused was identified as Sunil Mehra of Galla Mandi Gate Bhopal. Police recovered the vehicle stolen from the accused.
Later in the investigation it was found that the accused holds a past crime record and has been booked for vehicle thefts. The accused was booked for stealing two vehicles. The police have started searching for other accomplices who have helped the accused in stealing and disposing of the vehicles.
