SGPC chief asks Punjab Govt to stop release of 'Dastaan-e-Sirhind'

Amritsar: SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Wednesday demanded from the Punjab Government to stop the release of film ‘Dastaan-e-Sirhind’ saying that the movie personifies the sahibzadas, sons of tenth Sikh Guru, due to which there is huge protest among the Sikh sangat (community). Several organizations and the sangat are expressing their protest to demand a ban on this film, he said, adding that several objections regarding this film have also reached the SGPC. “Punjab Government should take immediate action in this regard and at the same time, the censor board should also reconsider its decision,” said Dhami adding that the decision regarding any film related to Sikh history is taken in the light of principles, Sikh 'maryada' (code of conduct) and traditions.

 

Free health check-up to 98,13,214 under ‘Nirogi Haryana’ scheme

Chandigarh: Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said that in the first phase of Nirogi Haryana scheme, the facility of free intensive health check-up will be given to 98,13,214 members of 24,75,380 Antyodaya families across the state. Vij said that recently, the scheme was inaugurated by the President Droupadi Murmu. To smoothly conduct intensive health check-up of the members of all these families, they have been divided into six categories according to age groups so that infectious and non-infectious diseases can be diagnosed on the basis of different age groups.

 

Daler Mehndi's farmhouse among three sealed in Gurugram

Gurugram: Haryana Government’s Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has sealed three farmhouses, including one belonging to noted Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi near Damdama Lake in Sohna. The officials said that the sealing drive was carried out against three farmhouses in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders in the Sonya Gosh vs State of Haryana case on Tuesday. A team led by District Town Planner Amit Madholia carried out the sealing drive in the presence of Duty Magistrate Lachhiram, Naib Tehsildar, Sohna. “These are unauthorized farmhouses built without prior permission from the authority in the reservoir area of the lake. These were located in the Aravalli region,” said DTP Madholia.

 

Cong MP seeks registration of culpable homicide case in Kiratpur train accident

Rupnagar: Congress MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib and former Union Minister Manish Tewari on Wednesday demanded registration of a case of culpable homicide regarding the tragic death of three children in a train accident at Lohand bridge at Sri Kiratpur Sahib. In a letter written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, he demanded compensation to the victims’ families. He also raised question as why the train driver could not see the children on railway line at 11.30 in the morning.

 

GLADA to start e-auction of 130 properties from Dec 11

Chandigarh: Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) will conduct an e-auction of commercial, residential, and institutional sites from December 11 9 am till December 20 1 pm. Spokesperson of the Housing and Urban Development Department said that a total of 130 sites would be available for bidding which include 14 residential plots, 115 commercial sites (41-SCOs, 28-SCFs, 24-Booths and 22-shops) — situated in different localities in Ludhiana, Moga, and Ferozepur.

 

PITEX in Amritsar from Dec 8

Amritsar: A five-day Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) is all set to begin in Amritsar from December 8. The trade expo is being organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in collaboration with the Punjab Government. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh Sudan said that PITEX was eagerly awaited by locals as the exhibition had carved out a niche for itself during the last 15 years and will help in building Industrial relations. As per reports, the expo will have over 500 kiosks displaying array of products from the State and across the county.

 

Punjab I&PR Dept bids warm farewell to TPO Attri on his superannuation

Chandigarh: Punjab Information and Public Relations Department on Wednesday gave a warm farewell to the Teleprinter Operator (TPO) Lakhwinder Attri on his retirement, after serving the department for nearly 36 years. Department’s Additional Director Dr Opinder Singh Lamba, Joint Director Randeep Singh Ahluwalia, IPRO Navdeep Singh Gill along with others lauded the marvelous services rendered by Attri during his service in the department.

 

CII held interactive session with Deputy Commissioner, IT (TDS)

Chandigarh: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Chandigarh, on Wednesday organized an interactive session with Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax (TDS), Sohrab Singh Chauhan. The interaction provided members an opportunity to understand better the developments in direct taxation. Also the objective of the Session was to address concerns of CII member companies related to income tax, specifically TDS and TCS, and to provide a forum for direct interaction with the Deputy Commissioner on company specific issues
