After the Renovation, Modernisation and Up-rating (RMU) works taken up in units 5 and 6 of the Hirakud Power Station, Burla, the commercial operation of the units have begun on November 2 and January 9, respectively.
The units after rendering continuous service for more than 50 years had recently undergone RMU as per the CEA guidelines. Voith Hydro Private Limited (India) had taken up the work since October 2015 with financial implication of Rs 158.77 crore.
The capacity of both the units has been enhanced from 37.5 MW to 43.65 MW each resulting in addition of 12.3 MW of power to Odisha grid. Total hydroelectric power generating capacity of Burla Power House has been increased from 275.5 MW to 287.8 MW. The OHPC had already undertaken RMU work of its 1, 2, 3 and 4 units of Burla HEP in phased manner and fed an additional capacity of 40 MW (12x2 + 8x2) into Odisha grid. Similarly, all the three units of Chiplima are also generating electric power smoothly
