The first ever torch relay for the 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad will be reaching the City Beautiful, Chandigarh on June 23 from Shimla. The torch relay was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 19. The main event will be held in Mahabalipuram from July 28 to August 10. Banwarilal Purohit, UT Administrator will flag off the torch relay from Rock Garden Chandigarh on June 23. This torch will be taken from Rock Garden to Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, Panjab University and Sector 42 lake. The torch will be taken to 75 cities in a span of 40 days before arriving in Mahabalipuram near Chennai. In nearly 100 years of the history of the Chess Olympiad, it's the first time that India will be hosting the significant event.
