Covid cases on decline, but don’t let guard down: TMH

Saturday, 29 January 2022 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The rate of Covid-19 is on decline in the city, much to the relief of people. Yet, the experts of Tata Main Hospital ( TMH) there stand strong chances of the pandemic striking back with unknown intensity.

During a telephonic media interaction, Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, and former general manager, medical services, Tata Steel on Friday said the spread of COVID-19 cases has started showing some signs of improvement in the city. At present, only 15 patients have been admitted at the hospital. There are only 4 patients in the critical care unit.

In the previous week the number was 44. The recovery rate improved to 85 per cent. The hospital has seen 1,153 deaths in all the three waves, the numbers are only 55 deaths in the third wave.

The hospital has conducted 3.29 lakh Covid tests out of which 1.74 lakhs were RT-PCR. This week only 208 tests were positive while in the previous week it was 711.

Dr Choudhry also did not rule out chances of the return of the virus with unknown symptoms and varying intensity.

“We need to follow precautionary measures like use of masks and santiser and social distancing for the well-being of the self and others,” He added the ongoing vaccination was building up more confidence in people. TMH has also crossed 3 lakh vaccine numbers. The focus should be on vaccination.

He said that all the recent infections have left behind natural immunity that should give us a few months before another new COVID wave hits.

Dr Rajan Choudhry despite the trend of the virus, one must continue to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour including wearing of mask, hand sanitisation, social distancing and avoid crowded places.

“We need to be careful in the coming days as the downward trends should continue for the next two weeks. We should continue to avoid crowding, wear masks and follow social distancing. This will reduce the chances of spread of the virus. If we remain serious about the protocols the virus will further reduce significantly,” he noted.

The advisor also said that TMH is also focusing on the post Covid19 care clinic at its OPD. Sensing the need of those patients who recovered from coronavirus, the hospital will focus on post Covid care.
