Amidst the growing threat of Covid-19, about 13 B. Tech students from Adityapur- based NIT Jamshedpur tested positive for COVID-19, following the test report that arrived on Monday evening.

As the report reached the campus, the students, who tested positive were isolated and quarantined within the campus and kept under strict observation. Sources said three of the students were admitted to the Tata Main Hospital last night.

The NIT administration, in collaboration with the Seraikela- Kharsawan district administration, conducted tests on resident students.

Around 500 students are currently staying on the campus, while others will return to the campus only after the completion of the summer vacation on July 17. Director KK Shukla has given directives to check the spread of the virus.

"Though the isolated positive students are showing mild symptoms and are doing well, the NIT administration is monitoring the situation closely to ensure full recovery and rule out any chance of spread," said an official.

Advisories have also been issued by the NIT administration to other campus residents to strictly follow social distancing, wear masks and comply with the Institute policy on Covid 19 and the directions of the Government of Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, the sudden rise in cases, the health department is on its toes and started screening patients.   Another official said: " The cases are on the rise again and we need to be careful. Wearing a mask is mandatory as per Covid protocols issued by the ministry of home affairs and state disaster management department. This along with following social distancing norms helps in preventing the transmission of Covid-19 virus, " he said. Those entering Mango through the Jai Prakash Narayan Setu without face masks were also stopped near the KhudiRam Bose statue at the Mango Chowk.
