Amidst the controversy over the Shreemandir Parikrama Project, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Vir Vikram Yadav and district Collector Samarth Verma met Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischilananda Saraswati on Monday.

Though the reason for meeting the Shankaracharya was unknown, it was believed that they held discussions about the Parikrama project.

The visit of Gajapati assumed importance after the seer’s statement that
he has not been consulted by the Government before resuming work for the Heritage Corridor. The Shankaracharya had also advised the Government to carry out the work by respecting laws.

In another development, the first coordination meeting for the upcoming Rath Yatra presided over by RDC (Central), was organised at the Town Hall in the city. Puri MLA Jayant Sarangi, the SJTA chief, the Collector and heads of line departments discussed the preparedness for the festival.

A slew of issues, including chariots construction, water and power supply, health and law and order, in connection wit the festival came up for discussions.
