Handicapped siblings go 3 km by tricycle for pension

Monday, 23 May 2022 | MONOHAR MOHANTY | NABARANGPUR

The State Government has been providing financial assistance (pension) to the differently-abled and the elderly people. But they have been found to be struggling to get their pensions every month.

An example of this is Rajiv Patra and his elder brother Deb Patra of Udaipur village under Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangpur district. Deb Patra is mentally-challenged while his younger brother Rajiv is a physically-handicapped. These two brothers have to travel by a tricycle about three km to get their pension every month.

Despite the unbearable heat, the fact that the elder brother takes his younger brother in a tricycle and go for the pension is heartbreaking said  the villagers. Elder brother Deb receives Rs 500 per month while his  younger brother Rajiv receives Rs 400 per month as disability allowance. Sadly, these two brothers are going from Udaipur village to Tentulikhunti panchayat office every month to collect their pension money.  So the  villagers of Tentulikhunti block have demanded the administration to provide allowance money to the differently abled and very old people in their home.
