Haryana appoints IPS officer Navdeep Singh Virk as principal secretary transport

Saturday, 15 January 2022 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Government on Friday appointed IPS officer Navdeep Singh Virk as Principal Secretary, Transport Department relieving another IPS officer Kala Ramachandran of the charge.

Virk, a 1994 batch IPS officer, was earlier posted as ADGP, Law and Order in the state.

An order issued by the Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal stated, “Navdeep Singh Virk, ADGP (Law and Order) has been posted as Principal Secretary, Transport Department relieving Kala Ramachandran of the said charge.”

“IAS PK Das, Additional Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management and Consolidation Department has been given additional charge of Additional Chief Secretary, Power Department and Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Energy Department,” the order added.

Ramachandran was appointed as Principal Secretary (PS), Transport Department on September 5, 2021 triggering a controversy over Haryana Government’s move to appoint an IPS officer on a cadre post meant for IAS officers.

Home Minister Anil Vij had refused to relieve the IPS officer Kala Ramachandran insisting that the government has to seek prior approval of the DoPT before appointing an IPS officer to an IAS cadre post but the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had overruled his cabinet colleague to appoint the IPS officer as PS Transport Department.
