The Election Commission of India today announced bye elections for 3 Lok Sabha seats and seven Assembly seats in six States to be held on June 23. This also includes the bypoll in the Mandar Assembly segment of Jharkhand.
As per the Election Commission notice, notification for the polls will be issued on May 30 and by June 6 candidates can file their nomination papers. The scrutiny of nomination papers will conclude on June 7, while the last date for withdrawal of nomination will be June 9. Counting of votes and results will be declared on June 26.
Notably, the Mandar bye election was necessitated after former MLA Bandhu Tirkey was convicted in a disproportionate assets case by a special CBI court a few weeks ago.
A Special CBI court sentenced Tirkey with three years of rigorous imprisonment in the last week of March 2022.
