The demand for district status to Brahmapur gained momentum after the CM Naveen Patnaik’s recent decision to make Padmapur the 31st district of the State.
City based outfit Sahara TaliAnchalMilitaKriyaAnusthan Committee (STAMKAC) has renewed its earlier demand of making the Brahmapur sub-division a district. The STAMKAC had submitted a memorandum in this regard addressing to the Chief Minister in 2018 when the Government was considering creating some new districts before the 2019 simultaneous elections.
Again on Friday, STAMKAC president Sanjib Kumar Patnaik sent a memorandum through email and post highlighting the need for the creation of Brahmapur district at this juncture. In his letter he mentioned grounds as to why there is a need to create a new district of Brahmapur.
Ganjam district is still a big district to govern and for better administration, Brahmapur needs to be made a district, said Patnaik.
Besides, Brahmapur is a very old and historic city. A glorious history is habits with it. The border city is known for its unity in diversity culture tag. The uniqueness of the BrahmapurPatta has made this city proud to be known as silk city. This city has produced a great man like former President VV Giri. Moreover the foundation stone of the formation of a maiden linguistic State of Odisha was laid here, he argued.
Brahmapur has already got a separate police and labour district tag under its purview. Recently the Government is also going to give a nod for a separate RTO office for Brahmapur. The RDC office is in Brahmapur but the district headquarters town of Ganjam is in Chhatrapur, said the memorandum.
More so, Padmapur is a smaller division in comparison to the Brahmapur division. So, if Padmapur can be a district why not Brahmapur, asked the memorandum.
