Tuesday, 05 July 2022 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

In a bizarre incident, a man in Paschim Vihar injured three members of a family in his neighbourhood with an iron rod allegedly after their pet dog barked at him. The man also hit the dog on the head with the iron rod and injured it greviously. According to eyewitnesses, the man first threw a brick at the family and then hit them with the rod. The entire incident was also caught on a CCTV camera.

A video of the incident shows the infuriated man heading home, followed by a woman. Both of them can be seen fighting as he picks up a rod. Then a disturbing standoff ensues as the woman holds on to the man's foot as he attacks her with the rod.  Once the attacker leaves two men come to her aid. Later, the man comes back to attack the family and the dog. The dog falls on the ground but comes to and runs around writhing in pain due to the concussion. The footage shows a second woman being thrashed by the attacker after she grabs him and pins him to the ground. Amid the mayhem, onlookers arrive at the scene and try to stop the fight. The dog Scooby, has a blood clot in its head and is being treated by a veterinarian. Sameer Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer district said a police control room (PCR) call regarding the quarrel was received on Sunday morning at the Paschim Vihar East police station.

“During enquiry it was found that one person namely Dharamvir Dahiya was strolling when the pet dog of a resident of A Block started barking. At that Dahiya picked the dog by its tail and threw it.

When the owner of the dog, Rakshit (25), saw this, he immediately intervened which led to a minor scuffle between Dahiya and the dog owner. During this scuffle, the dog also bit Dahiya. After some time Dahiya came back with an iron rod and brutally hit the dog on its head.

He also hit Rakshit and another man Hemant (53) and with the rod,” the DCP said. Later on, Dahiya barged into Rakshit’s house to take back the rod used in the assault. He also hit Renu (45). All the injured persons have been medically examined while Dahiya went to the Park Hospital, Khyala to get treated for dog bites.

Accordingly, the police registered an FIR under Sections 308 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 451 (House-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code read with section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
