PWDU stir from May 26 in Paradip

Saturday, 21 May 2022 | PNS | PARADIP

The Paradip Port and Dock Workers' Union (PWDU) will launch a stir from May 26 demanding various facilities for General Proposed Majdoo (GPM) workers who have been working in the port for last 30 years. It is worth noting that these workers have been working as part-time workers since the 1980s. There is no vacation for them and still the payment basis is 'no work no pay.' There is no accommodation or medical facilities for them.

Despite repeated appeals to the port authorities and the Stevedores Association, no action has been taken under the Government’s labor law, alleged the union.

The Press conference was attended by Union vice-presidents Akshay Kumar Patnaik and Dhaneshwar Jena and general secretary Sanatan Behera.
