Samiti Member ostracised in Ganjam village

Tuesday, 24 May 2022 | PNS | CHHATRAPUR

In a bizarre instance, a Panchayat Samiti Member has
complained that she was forced to pay a fine of Rs 4 lakh and faced a
social boycott in her own village, Subalaya, under Ganjam block.

Samiti Member Mami Das alleged that only because she supported a
candidate for Block Chairman other than the one from the ruling BJD,
she was ostracised and targeted in the village.

Meanwhile, she had met and submitted a written complaint against her
own villagers to the Ganjam SP Brijesh Mishra and informed that if the
local administration would not take any action she would go to the
Navin Niwas and meet the Chief Minister.

She also warned of taking the extreme step of committing suicide if
the administration failed to give justice to her. She alleged that the
villagers had been continuously harassing her.

However, on the contrary, Karuna Das, a resident of Subalaya village
denied the allegation of boycott from village and alleged that the
Samiti Member had levelled the allegation because she was removed from
village president’s post.

Mami Das was elected unopposed during the last panchayat polls. She
was in news for being kidnapped during the election of Block
Chairperson post, but later she had released a video that she was
well.
