A 26-year-old government health worker died after a truck rammed hit her scooter in Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district when she was returning from a Republic Day event where she was felicitated for her outstanding service during the Corona pandemic, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday when Pemeshwari Sahu, a Community Health Officer at the Health and Wellness Centre in Khallari village, was returning home from the Kondagaon headquarters, Kondagaon Kotwali Station House Officer Archana Dhurandhar said.

As she reached the programme venue late, her co-worker had to receive the award on her behalf, said a district public relations officer, G.K. Shukla.

Sahu was felicitated for her excellent management of health and wellness centers, he said.

She was also felicitated for the same achievement by the Central government on December 13 last year at a function held in New Delhi, he added.

On the way home, the speeding truck rammed her from behind and she died on the spot. The unidentified driver managed to escape, the police said.
