UCCI bats to promote Odisha MSME sector abroad

Friday, 27 May 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

High Commissioner of India to Port of Spain/Trinidad & Tobago Arun Kumar Sahu addressed the Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UCCI) here on the invitation of its president Brahma Mishra on Wednesday.

Mishra reiterated the UCCI’s mission to have direct coordination with and act as the bridge between industry leaders and High Commissions for ease of doing business in the Caribbean countries and the North Americas. Sahu promptly responded that he is more than willing to intervene with the American part in coordinating and ensuring handholding of the new entrants in business and trade between both the countries.

Mishra requested for a roundtable to be arranged in Port of Spain and one also in New York to promote the Odisha MSME sector successfully to establish their brand name. Sahu reassured to extend all support through his good offices.

Sahu mentioned that to Odisha’s benefit, there are as many as 11 High Commissioners who are Odia. Hence, the coordination work should be taken up by the UCCI for the State’s industrial advance. He also spoke of the huge opportunity that the trade in the Caribbean Sea can offer to the Indian trading community and said he would continue to work in promoting the Indian interest anywhere in the world.

He gave numerous examples of how young Indian entrepreneurs are making it big everywhere in the world with the enhanced support of IT-enable hubs coupled with their impromptu knack for development and growth in a holistic manner.

Sahu even suggested for enabling the security and the entry system at the Jagannath Temple at Puri and invited the technology hubs to work on it.

He spoke emotionally of making Odisha’s own Chhenapoda and Sambalpuri Saree into a global brand.

UCCI vice-president (commerce) Ashok Kumar Sharda gave a vote of thanks.
