Woman assaulted in train over ‘sorcery’

Thursday, 22 September 2022 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

The video of a woman being beaten up with a shoe over suspected sorcery practice on the Palasa-Bhubaneswar passenger train has gone viral in social media.

The woman, who identified herself as Archana Mishra in the video, was travelling to Bhubaneswar from Brahmapur when the incident took place.

The video clip showed a woman co-passenger thrashing Archana with a shoe after some people claimed that she was carrying a cattle head, cattle bones, vermilion and rice for sorcery practice and threw rice at them when they asked her about it.

In the video, some other passengers tried to intervene and control the situation but some others were taking sides and tried to aggravate the situation.

Getting information, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrived on the scene and pacified both the warring sides.

But Archana refuted the allegations and instead complained that some passengers tried to snatch her money purse, which contained some important documents.
