SIVANANDA SCHOOL CELEBRATES ANNUAL DAY
Bhubaneswar: The Sivananda Centenary Boys’ School at Khandagiri here celebrated its 40th Annual Day on Saturday with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as chief guest and Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb and Swami Nirlipanda Saraswati of Rishikesh as guests of honour. School secretary Swami Jagannathananda Sarawati gave welcome address. Management committee member Rajiv Sekhar Sahoo briefed about the development of the school. Principal Prafulla Kumar Mahapatra read the annual report. Minister Pradhan opined, “Students should be taught in their mother tongue.” The school, established in 1984, has all along been achieving 100% result. A kind of Guru Kula environment prevails here where students learn moral and intellectual education.
BALANGIR: YOUTH INJURED AS JAVELIN PIERCES STOMACH
Balangir: A youth was hit by a javelin and sustained critical injuries after it pierced his stomach in Ainlabhata village under the Belapada police station in Balangir district on Sunday. He was identified as Raju Thanapati. It was not known how Raju got hit by the javelin. He was rushed to hospital. Notably, a few weeks back, in same Balangir, a teenage boy got critically injured when a javelin pierced through his neck during a sports meet in a high school. Later, the javelin was removed by doctors.
R-DAY PARADE HELD AT INS CHILKA
A ceremonial parade was held at INS Chilka to commemorate the 74th Republic Day. Cmde NP Pradeep, Naval Officer-in-Charge (Odisha) and Commanding Officer, INS Chilka laid a wreath at the War Memorial followed by review of parade comprising of Naval personnel and jawans of the Defence Security Corps. He also awarded Proficiency Certificates to Sailors who have performed proficiently towards the preparation and training of the first batch of Agniveers. A Naval contingent from Chilka also participated in the State-level parade at Bhubaneswar.
SAKSHAM EYE CAMP HELD IN R’GADA SCHOOL
Rayagada: An eye testing camp was organised in the Government High School campus of Munisingh village under Kolnara block. Over 60 students of the school and 12 teachers underwent testing. Five of them were found to have problems in their eyes and one had hearing problems. SAKSHAM, Odisha Paschim secretary Ramachandra Sahu said his organisation will provide all the eye care facilities to the patients. Treasurer Bijaya Kumar Mishra facilitated organising the camp with help of school teachers and village volunteers. District secretary and Prant Yuva Pramukh Shyam Kumar Dash spoke.
1ST DEATH ANNIV OF KIRAN SAHU HELD
Keonjhar: Social worker, founding president, Keonjhar Citizen Forum Wing Commander (Retd) Er Kiran Shankar Sahu was remembered on his 1st death anniversary at his Banpar residence here on Saturaday. His family members and well-wishers paid floral tributes to him after his statute was unveiled. “ Karnadhar”, a book in memory of Sahu and edited by Er Ajay Kumar Sahoo, was unveiled. People from different walks of life spoke how Sahu was relentlessly fighting for development of Keonjhar.
