Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said the Medical College at Kanker will be named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He was addressing the annual convention of Gondwana Samaj at Pen Karsad Mandari at Bhanupratappur, the tehsil headquarters of Kanker district.
He also inaugurated and performed Bhumi Pujan of 146 development works at a cost of Rs 14.47 crore, an official communication said.
He said the state government has been in the forefront to preserve tribal culture and tradition.
The work of scripting all the tribal dialects of the state and preserving folk dances, folk songs and traditional games was also underway.
The construction of ‘Degudis’ and ‘Ghotuls’ was also in progress in the district, he added.
The country's largest millet processing plant has started recently at Nathia Navagaon in Kanker district to promote millets grown by the tribal community, he said.
Baghel declared that a sports ground at Bhanupratappur will be named after former Deputy Speaker Manoj Singh Mandavi, street lights will come up in Bhanupratappur and dilapidated schools in Bhanupratappur will be renovated.
He asked the Kanker Collector to send a proposal for these works.
