Friday, 17 March 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In the ongoing Rabi season, the Uttar Pradesh government will conduct more than three lakh crop cutting experiments in about 80,000 gram panchayats which will be audited by the employees of the State Revenue department.

The harvesting time of Rabi crops in Uttar Pradesh started from February 25 and will continue till May 10.

“The harvesting phase of Rabi season 2022-23 has started. The government's assessment is that this time we will have a good yield. At present, the harvesting of lahi-mustard, potato, lentils, gram, linseed, barley and wheat is going on. The Yogi Adityanath government has started a crop cutting experiment to find out the actual figures of production,” a government spokesman said here on Thursday.

Crop cutting experiments or CCEs, refer to an assessment method employed by governments and agricultural bodies to accurately estimate the yield of a crop or region during a given cultivation cycle,

A total of 3.18 lakh crop cutting experiments are being conducted in 79,622 gram panchayats of the state. Officers of Agriculture and Revenue departments have been nominated by the district magistrates for the correctness of the data obtained from crop cutting experiments.

Apart from this, crop cutting experiments are also being observed by the representatives of empanelled insurance companies in the state under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. An honorarium of Rs 80 will be provided to the accountant, Rs 80 to the labourer and Rs 100 to the farmer for crop cutting.

Instructions have also been given to the district magistrates to ensure that the crop cutting experiments were conducted only after talking to the farmers selected by the lekhpal.

“Farmers should be informed well in advance about the date of crop cutting,” the official said.

The chief minister has directed the officers to send the data received from crop cutting to the Revenue Board and Directorate of Agriculture only after testing and approving it according to the crop variety.
