The police arrested a husband and wife on Monday with smack worth about Rs 51 lakh during the checking of vehicles in Sahaspur. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said that he has constituted police teams to conduct regular inspections across the district to prevent the smuggling and sale of illegal drugs.
One of these teams was conducting a checking campaign in the Dharmawala area of Sahaspur on Monday when the police noticed a suspicious car. The police stopped the car and started checking and found a man and woman in possession of a total of 510 grammes of smack worth about Rs 51 lakh, said the SSP. He stated that police arrested both smugglers from the spot and filed a case against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. According to the police, both accused named Ashraf (31) and Sabada (24) belong to Saharanpur and smuggle smack to earn quick money. The SSP said that both accused have also revealed information about some big drug smugglers of Mirzapur, Bareilly and local drug peddlers of Kunja Grant and the police would take action against them.
