JMM, Cong, BJP remember Mahto as son of soil, strong leader

Leaders across party lines, academicians and social workers have mourned the untimely death of State Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto who passed away in Chennai on Thursday morning.

The Jharkhand government has declared a two-day State mourning as a mark of respect for Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto, who died today while receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren mourning the death of the Education Minister described Mahto’s death as an irreparable loss. “Irreparable harm! Our Tiger Jagarnath Da is no longer with us! Jharkhand has lost one of its greatest agitators, a combative, hardworking, and well-liked leader. Respected Jagarnath Mahto ji died while receiving treatment in Chennai. “May God grant the departed soul peace and the bereaved family strength to bear this difficult time of grief,” he tweeted.

“We have lost our brother and a dedicated colleague who struggled with us for a long time in agitation for the party and people,” said MLA Sudivya Kumar.

Mahto represented Dumri constituency of Giridih in the Assembly.  While addressing a condolence meeting at Giridih JMM district office JMM leaders said that four-time MLA and Education  Minister Jagarnath Mahto was a natural thinker of Jharkhandi thought and a revolutionary leader of the people.

Congress MLA from Mandar, Shilpi Neha Tirkey said today the whole of Jharkhand is crying. We have all lost our guide. The pain of losing the real Tiger of Jharkhand is unbearable. Due to the passing of our Jagarnath Mahato ji, who fought for the water, forest and land of Jharkhand, a vacuum has come. We will make Jharkhand by following his ideals. This will be our true tribute.

Mahto was known for raising people's issues both inside the house and outside the house. He was one of the ardent supporters of 1932 Khatian. Opposition BJP too condoled the death of Mahto. Babulal Marandi, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, expressed his condolences on Mahto’s death. “The departure of Jagarnath ji, who fought like a warrior for a long time while defeating the disease. It is a tragic incident for the entire state of Jharkhand. Regardless of political differences, I have always admired his vitality. May God grant him a seat at his feet,” he wrote on Twitter.

Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth has expressed his condolences on the sudden demise of State Education Minister Jagarnath Mahato. MP Seth said that Jagarnath Mahato was a very settled and respectable leader. His health started deteriorating since the time of Corona. Despite that, he continued to discharge his duties faithfully, may God rest his soul in peace and may God give strength to his family to bear the loss in this hour of grief.

The State BJP has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Jagarnath Mahato. BJP State president and Member of Parliament Deepak Prakash expressed his condolence and said that late Jagarnath Mahato was a combative, struggling son of the soil. His sudden demise has caused irreparable damage to the state.  Prakash prayed to God for the peace of his soul. May God grant patience and courage to the family members in their hour of grief.

State Organization General Secretary Karmaveer Singh, State General Secretary and MP Aditya Sahu, Dr. Pradeep Verma, Balmukund Sahay etc. are among those who expressed condolences.

Fifty Six year old Mahto is survived by four daughters and a son. After the passing away of the leader, the state government declared a two-day mourning period and also cancelled a cabinet meeting that was scheduled for this evening.
