Mann Ki Baat discusses on Padma awardees, international millet yr

Monday, 30 January 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

BJP workers and leaders across the state on Sunday listened to the Prime Minister's Mann Ki Baat programme. State President and MP Deepak Prakash listened to Mann Ki Baat at booth number 252 under Chitarpur Mandal of Ramgarh district. Prakash said that the Mann Ki Baat program has now become a program of the people. He said that due to the efforts of the Prime Minister, declaring 2023 as International Year Millets by the United Nations is a big achievement of India. He said that India has emerged as a shining star on the international horizon under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

India has planned multiple activities as the International Year of Millets (IYM) 2023 kicks off. Last year, the United Nations declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets on the initiative of the Indian government. The Narendra Modi government’s proposal was backed by 72 other countries.

The prime minister has insisted on making IYM ‘people’s movement’, while positioning India as the ‘global hub for millets.

Millet is a whole grain that is high in nutritional value. This varied group of small-seeded grasses include jowar (sorghum), ragi (finger millet), kodo (kodo millet), kutki (little millet), kakun (foxtail millet), sanwa (barnyard millet), cheena (proso millet), kuttu (buckwheat) and chaulai (amaranth).

The cereal crop is nutritionally superior to wheat and rice due to its higher protein levels and a more balanced amino acid profile. Millets are drought-resistant, with lower water requirements, and can be cultivated on poor soils and in hilly terrain. They are also rich in carbohydrates, protein and minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and zinc.

While listening to the Mann Ki Baat program at his Morhabadi residence, leader of the Legislature Party and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi said that this program is full of ocean in pot.  Mann Ki Baat program introduces people to the cultural, geographical and integration of India.

The PM in his Maan ki Baat programme said that sizeable number of Padma awardees this year were from tribal communities and people associated with tribal society, highlighting the ‘People’s Padma' movement which marked a paradigm shift in Jan-Bhagidari, or public contribution, for building what the ruling party touts as ‘New India’.

“Tribal life is different from city life, it also has its own challenges. Despite all this, tribal societies are always eager to preserve their traditions,” PM Modi said. “Various people from tribal areas - painters, musicians, farmers, artisans - have been conferred the Padma awards. I urge all countrymen to read their inspiring stories.”

This year Padma awards also includes Janum Singh Soy, a resident of the Ghatshila sub-division of East Singhbhum of Jharkhand, is a Ho language scholar who has been working for the preservation and promotion of the Ho language for four decades. Soy, an author of as many as six books on the culture and lifestyle of Ho tribes, has helped make Ho a language for studies in universities.

BJP State Organization General Secretary Karmaveer Singh along with hundreds of workers listened to the Mann Ki Baat program at booth number 305 of Harmu Mandal under Ranchi Metropolitan District.

Singh said on the occasion that along with the party workers, the general public also eagerly waits for this popular programme.

Singh said that in Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister shows the whole of India. Said that this program is a treasure of information as well as it is drenched in the colors of diversities.

State General Secretary and MP Aditya Sahu, Dr. Pradeep Verma, Balmukund Sahay, Subodh Singh Guddu, Naveen Jaiswal, Kajal Pradhan, including all state office bearers and workers listened to Mann Ki Baat at booths located in their respective areas.
