The 74th Republic Day was celebrated at the Central University of Odisha (CUO) at its Sunabeda campus where Vice Chancellor Prof Chakradhar Tripathi hoisted the tricolor.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Tripathy urged the audience to remember the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters in bringing independence to the nation as well as making the Constitution. He also hoped that the National Education Policy 2020 will be helpful in building the development of the youths.
The Vice-Chancellor gave away prizes to the winners of an extempore speech competition organised on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week 2022.
In the second half, Vriksha Ropana and Kanya Pujana functions were conducted in the campus. More than 500 participants including students from Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Sunabeda, faculty, staff and students of the varsity participated in a rally. Prof Tripathi and Buddhist Monk Rev Dr Wadingala Pannaloka from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, along with eminent dignitaries planted Bodhi (peepal tree) and Bata (banyan tree) plant in the university campus.
In the Kanya Pujana programme, Prof Tripathi offered prayers to Siddhhidatri, the 9th avatar of Goddess Durga.
