Thousands of activists of Kendrapada Block and Nagar Congress Committee on Tuesday took out a rally through the main thoroughfare of the township and reached at district Collector's office.
The activists later gheraoed the collectorate where they organized a protest meeting. The agitation was named as ”Mati Pai Jail Chalo”, presses for various demands for the development of the district.
They were led by the senior Congress leader and former Minister, Ganeswar Behera, former MLA of Aul, Debendra Sharma, former MLA Chinmaya Behura, District Congress Committee president Lokanath Maharathi and Ratikanta Kanungo.
The demands included setting up of a medical college at Kendrapada, giving university status to Kendrapada Autonomous College, running a passenger train on Paradip –Haridaspur railway line in Kendrapada and setting up a city hospital at Kendrapada Municipality etc.
