If you are working for Government you need to work with a perspective- were some of the words shared by Union Minister for Rural Development (MRD), Jairam Ramesh with around 150 newly recruited engineers of JSRRDA (Jharkhand State Rural Road Development Authority) on May 18.
While interacting with the engineers in a programme, Ramesh highlighted host of factors expected of an engineer working for the government. “Don’t take it as a normal job. You can leave lasting impression on people and surrounding,” said Ramesh adding, “You need to work with transparency as people are constantly watching you.”
Ramesh, a regular visitor to the State, discussed issues and circumstances under which a Government employee has to work in naxal affected districts of Jharkhand. The Minister, however, pinned his hope on the newly-recruited engineers and encouraged them to contribute in the success of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). Ramesh said, “You can withstand any challenge”.
The engineers who took part in the orientation-cum training programme were selected through Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and by the JSRRDA on contract for one year. Around 86 engineers out of total of 150 have been selected by JSRRDA to work for the PMGSY for a period of one year.
Interestingly, the engineers recruited on contractual basis could not hide their concern of becoming jobless after a period of one year and requested the Minister to look into the matter. Dismissing their concern Ramesh said, “If you work well I do not see any reason why you will not get extension,” and based on the evaluation of your work some of you may become permanent.
The Minister and the Principal Secretary, Rural Works-cum-CEO of JSRRDA, SK Satpathy dispelled all other concerns of engineers. “This is your training period so don’t think about salary. learn and prove yourself,” said Satpathy.
Satpathy also assured the engineers that they will be sent for training programme in premier institutions which will help them in shaping their career.
Meanwhile, the newly recruited engineers were given training on quality assurance, quality control, history of PMGSY and nitty-gritty of Detailed Project Report.
