The third convocation ceremony of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) was held on Saturday with great splendour at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood.
A Skill Centre at the East Campus and a Centre for Industry 4.0 at the West Campus were also inaugurated, marking a significant step towards equipping students with future technologies, innovation and industry-oriented skills. Degrees were conferred upon undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars, with best wishes extended to them for a bright future.
Addressing the convocation on the theme ‘Engineering Education for Sustainable and Inclusive Development’, Lt Governor Saxena emphasised the paramount importance of ecological balance and environmental sustainability in all developmental and progressive efforts. He stated that engineering today is not limited to technical proficiency alone, but also entails providing solutions grounded in sustainability, inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
He observed that NSUT has established itself as an institution that prepares students not only for professional success, but also for nation-building and social transformation.
Saxena urged young graduates to align their professional futures with these objectives so as to ensure sustainable, balanced and equitable development for the country and the world. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) is moving towards excellence, not only in academics but also in preparing students to serve society and the nation.
The Chief Minister said the university’s progress report reflected sustained efforts to improve the quality of education and holistic training of students, including through its Centre of Excellence initiatives.
Referring to the inauguration of two statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the university’s campuses, the chief minister said it was a matter of pride that the institution is named after a great freedom fighter whose life and leadership continue to inspire millions even today. She said the independence secured by India’s freedom fighters has placed a responsibility on the present generation to decide the country’s future direction, particularly as the country completes 78 years of independence.
Highlighting the role of technology and development in recent years, the chief minister said digital initiatives have transformed everyday life across social and economic sectors. She urged graduating students, especially engineers, to apply their knowledge and innovation to address long-standing urban and national challenges.
The chief minister further said that obtaining a degree should be seen as a milestone rather than a final destination, encouraging students to remain open to learning and new paths. She added that education and knowledge gained would remain valuable regardless of the field they choose to pursue.
Citing JK Rowling’s story of persistence despite 12 rejections, Sood stressed that innovation begins not in a lab but in a “moment of courage” and the willingness to listen to one’s inner voice. He then presented four key mantras for their careers, inspired by the Prime Minister: Quality, Scalability, Reliability, and Adaptability.
