Ex-MlA Yogender Saha in dock over abduction, rape

Monday, 31 March 2014 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Former Member of legislative Assembly (MlA), Yogender Saha was apprehended by the Badayun police on Sunday in relation to a kidnapping and rape case which was filed against him six years back. Due to an illness, the MlA could not be arrested by the police.

“A case under Section 366 and 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against him and his four accomplices on the complaint of a girl years back,” said Aatul Saxena, SSP Badayun. He was absconding for the past six years. To increase pressure on Saha, the police had seized the movable and immovable property of the accused. The police had also seized arms and cancelled his licence. He was declared an absconder by court in January this year. The High Court had issued a permanent warrant order to Badayun police to make sure he could be arrested from any part of the country, the SSP added.

An input was received that Saha was admitted in Prayag Hospital at Noida. Noida and Badayun police on Sunday morning raided the hospital to arrest him. The doctors there informed police that he had recently had a spinal tap and was under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Therefore, the police could not take him into custody. The court would also be informed about the same on Monday.
