Apologise to Shankaracharya: RSS, VHP to admin

Monday, 30 June 2014 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday slammed the State Government for its a decision on the Puri Shankarachary’s visit to deities atop chariots and demanded that it apologise to the seer forthwith.

“Revered Jagadguru Shankaracharya is the religious master of Hindus. Taking a decision on his visit to deities atop chariots is beyond power of the administration and motivated and condemnable. The administration should withdraw the decision forthwith and apologise to him,” said RSS State member Sameer Kumar Mohanty in a statement.

Mohanty further demanded that steps be taken to uphold the  prestige and dignity of the Shankaracharya.

In a similar note, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also condemned and asked the Government to apologise to the Puri seer.

“Jagadguru Shankaracharya is the highest personality to take final decision for the Sanatani Hindus. The decision taken by the administration on his visit to Raths is disrespect to him and has hurt sentiments of crores of Hindu people,” said Pramod Kumar Dash, Shrekshetra unit secretary of the VHP.

Stating that Hindus cannot tolerate disrespect to the Shankaracharya, Dash said the VHP would take to the streets if the Government does not refrain from taking such discourteous decisions.
