Jabalpur Engineering College and SGSITS Indore are proposed to be given university status under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). As many as four community colleges will be opened to make available financial assistance to weaker section and resourceless students to impart diploma engineering education to school dropouts and class X or ITI pass in-service youths.
Enrolment capacity of higher technical education institutions goes upto 2,25,719. In year 2003, enrolment capacity of higher technical education institutions in the State was 24,231, which has risen to 2,25,719 in 2014. Polytechnic college is proposed to be opened in newly constituted Agar-Malwa district.
As many as 12 new ITIs and 20 new skill development centres have been opened during year 2013-14. Placement of 2,131 students has been done through placement drive in division-level ITIs.
Training has been imparted to six lakh people till March 2014 under State-level skill development mission. As many as 7,974 domestic women helps have been trained.
In the new session of August this year, 65 new trades will be started in 36 ITIs. Renewable energy course will be started in Neemuch ITI. Ten division-level ITIs will be developed as Centres of Excellence.
Buildings of 70 ITIs are being constructed with the cooperation of NABARD. As many as 50 ITIs at district-level are being upgraded as Model ITIs. Work to identify land for establishing ITIs in unserviced development blocks has been completed.
As many as 18 emerging trades including multimedia & animation, mechatonics and industrial electronics will be started in engineering and polytechnic colleges.
Smart classrooms will be opened in 11 polytechnic colleges of the state. Earlier, smart classrooms have been established in 4 engineering and 6 polytechnic colleges. In the new sessions, e-Vani Yojana will be introduced in 25 polytechnic colleges.
