Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB), manning porus Indo-Nepal border to check cross-bordering smuggling and anti-national activities, is now laying stress to win the confidence of the people through social responsibilities. The move was reportedly made as through better co-ordination with the local people, the job of putting a curb on illegal activities becomes more easier through actionable inputs.
``Since the sleuths of our organisation is working amongst the people living on Indo-Nepal border, so it is very important that we should win their confidence, hence the SSB which is always meeting out social responsibilities has further strengthened it during the last few months”, disclosed IG of SSB lucknow Frontier, Avinash Chandra. He was talking to media persons soon after taking guard of honour during celebration of SSB’s Foundation Day, here on Wednesday morning.
Citing some steps in this regard, Chandra said that they had identified about two dozen residents living on border and they would organise to arrange their operation for cleft lips with the help of Smile Train, a NGO working in this direction. Similarly another NGO had made inspection of the border to medically examine some handicapped and disabled persons and now they would provide them gadgets like wheel chair, artificial limps etc at a camp which is likely to be organised by the end of their month or in the beginning of next year.
He said that another major step to fulfill or social responsibility is that they adopt at least one school in each district on Indo-Nepal border, mostly in which girls are students and providing the children all kind of help. Not only this, the employees of the SSB are even forwarding their services as teachers in these schools. We are also providing toilets in the schools which had majority of girl students, Chandra said.
IG SSB further said that besides fulfilling their social responsibilities, they had also strengthened their patrolling and intelligence network which yielded many fruitful traps in the form of arrest of smugglers carrying drugs or other psychotropic substances. From time to time some suspected persons hailing from Kashmir were also trapped when they tried to enter through Nepal border. About the earlier conflicts with the local residents particularly as their interest was hit by SSB’s action, Chandra said that now they avoid action against petty accused but laid thrust on those traffickers who were working in more organised manner after forming a gang. He also said to be getting a major help through toll-free help-line number already started by SSB few months back.
