The management committee of the Siddhpeeth Surkanda Devi temple has facilitated the renovation of this prominent shrine without any assistance from the Government. The idol of the goddess is now slated to be reinstalled in the renovated temple building on May 31.
This venerated shrine of the goddess, situated near Dhanaulti is not only a religiously important place but also an environmentally scenic and peaceful place. The temple had become old and was in a state of disrepair.
When the authorities and elected public representatives remained apathetic to its condition, the temple committee decided to re-build the shrine on its own. The steep climb to the temple made it difficult to carry construction material to the temple, but with the dedication of those involved in the work, the temple began to take a new shape.
In keeping with the traditional architecture style, the temple roof has been built in the traditional mountain style with slates and its original form has also been preserved. Surkanda temple committee treasurer Jitendra Negi and the temple priest Ramesh lekhwar said that the temple has been renovated using the money donated by several devotees of the goddess. Now the idol of goddess Surkanda would be reinstalled in the temple on May 31, they added.
