In-charge collector Dr Saransh Mittar on Tuesday appealed to the citizens to be extra cautious towards the spread of jaundice and to take immediate precautionary measures.
He said that jaundice (Viral Hepatitis E) is a contagious disease that spreads through contaminated water and food. The symptoms of the disease are visible in 15 to 20 days after the bacteria entered the body, he added. Mittar said, as pregnant women are more vulnerable to this disease, they need to be extra cautious towards prevention and treatment.
The main symptoms of jaundice are lose of taste sensation, lose of appetite, weakness and tiredness, passing of yellow coloured urine, vomiting, headache, skin and eyes become yellow coloured etc. If such symptoms appear, the patient should immediately contact the district hospital or the nearest health centre and take treatment.
If it is not possible for them to reach the health centre, they can avail the free Sanjeevni Express Ambulance service by calling on toll-free number 108. For getting information about medical advice or hospital, people can avail health consultancy service through toll-free number 104.
As a precaution from jaundice, he advised to drink water after boiling it for 20 minutes. Put one powdered chlorine tablet in 20-litre water and use it after 30 minutes. Wash hands with soap before taking meals and after defecation.
Do not use food items kept in the open. As jaundice virus comes out through the excreta of the patient, one should not defecate in open or do not allow anyone to do so.
