The Gujarat unit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has sent a team of doctors for the earthquake-affected people of Nepal. Besides, RSS Gujarat Prant (Unit) has also planned a fund collection drive from next month with a view to support the rescue and rehabilitation works in the neighbouring country.
A team of 50 doctors from across the State consisting experts from various branches of medicine have started serving people through National Medico Organisation (NMO), said Pradeep Jain, spokesman of RSS Gujarat unit. "The RSS workers in Gujarat are prepared to work for Nepalese brothers and sisters who have become victims of the devastating earthquake on last Saturday," Jain said.
"The Gujarat Swayamsevaks are ready to render their services for immediate aid as well as for long term initiatives. As of now they will concentrate on collecting funds for the people in the quake-hammered Himalayan country. But, they are also prepared to support rehabilitation works to be carried out in the near future," he said.
Professionals like architects, civil engineers, town planners and others who are connected with RSS in Gujarat have shown their eagerness to help out in Nepal, he said, adding that as and when their services will be required they will be available.
The fund collection programme for the earthquake-affected people will start on the Foundation Day of Gujarat on May 1 across the State, he said adding that the RSS volunteers will stand on streets of major cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and other cities.
"We have also sent 10,000 blankets and 10,000 tent material. We are working in coordination with Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) - the counterpart of RSS in Nepal. In fact, the funds and other aids are being given to HSS for helping the people," he said.
Jain said that when a similar devastating earthquake struck Kutch, RSS volunteers immediately reached the affected areas and initiated rescue work. later on, RSS also played an important role in rehabilitation work in Kutch, he added.
The Gujarat unit of RSS has also made an appeal to the people of Gujarat to donate generously. Apart from RSS, its sister concern Seva Bharati has also become active to collect fund to support rescue operation in Nepal.
CM, MlAs to donate one month salary
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Cabinet on Wednesday decided to donate one-month salary of the Gujarat Chief Minister, her Council of Ministers and all the BJP MlAs for the quake-affected people of Nepal. According to Gujarat Health Minister Nitin Patel, the amount collected from the BJP MlAs would be worth Rs69.40 lakh and will be donated to the PM's Relief Fund.
