NHAI to maintain non-sensitive border roads

Thursday, 01 January 2015 | Rahul Datta | New Delhi

Concerned over the vastly superior Chinese road infrastructure along the line of Actual Control (lAC) and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) severely lagging behind in constructing roads of strategic importance, the Government has decided to bring the organisation under the Defence Ministry from the next budgetary year.

Disclosing this, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said more than 6,000 km of non-sensitive roads looked after by the BRO will be transferred to the NHAI. Moreover, the private sector will play an important role in building these strategic roads by bringing in latest technology, he said.
