With the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) recommending the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to scrap the system of adding marks of Class XII in the final result of IIT, JEE for preparing merit list of selected candidates for selection in engineering colleges, chances are there that the elite examination would assume the old pattern of considering only the marks of entrance examination for admissions in engineering colleges from next academic session.
On the complaints of undue sway of the coaching institutes the UPA Government had introduced a system of adding 40 per cent marks of Class XII examination for preparing merit list of selected candidates in the examination of IIT-JEE in the year 2012. The concept though was introduced to curb the menace of coaching centres however gave rise to a situation when parents started sending their kids to the coaching institutes after class X itself for ensuring good marks in the class XII too.
The CSAB in its report has said that the major flaw in the present system is the delay in declaration of class XII result by many education boards of the country which was causing unwarranted delay in the entire process of examination and timely seat allocation.
The CBSE introduced joint seat allocation process this year but it was delayed by almost a week it did not get Class XII scores from all boards on time.
The Head of Department (HOD) of Mathematics at Baluni classes here Rajesh Tiwari said that the proposed move to scrap addition of class XII marks is a welcome step. He said that under the present pattern many students with less intelligence level were selected on the basis of higher marks they received in the class XII examination. Tiwari said that the pattern of IIT JJE is based on IO while crammers manage to get good marks in the board examinations.
