The Crime Branch has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly duping several MBBS aspirants by taking Rs18 lakh from each candidate on the pretext of sending them to foreign universities, police said on Thursday.
According to police, the arrested accused has been identified as Gopalan Anish Acharya. Apart from Acharya, other accused persons had allegedly floated an educational society in the name and style of luxmi Narain education consultancy firm located at Pushtak Road, Mohan Nagar, Durg in Chhattisgarh.
The accused used to charge several lakhs for getting admission in MBBS at Kyrgyzstan. In light of this, two cases were registered with the Chhattisgarh Police. Based on these FIRs, two other accused persons identified as Vaishno and Arvind Ghosh were earlier arrested by the Chhattisgarh police.
Police said eight students have been duped by the accused, who are natives of Kerala.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ravindra Yadav said the Chhattisgarh Police had approached them and sought help from us.
According to a senior Crime Branch official, “One Dr Premlal Baghel had reportedly approached the Durg police that his son had been duped of Rs18 lakh. Based on the technical surveillance, Crime Branch of the Delhi Police arrested Acharya, who was residing in the 842 Green Heaven apartment, sector 16 Dwarka. During investigation, police said they found Acharya himself was an MCA graduate from Kyrgyzstan and used to send students to Kyrgyzstan for doing MBBS. Further investigation is still on.
