Saturday, 30 April 2016 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a major breakthrough, the police on Friday busted a gang of criminals hatching a plot to loot `20 lakh from a courier boy on the Dimna Road in Mango. The crime was planned to be executed late in the afternoon.

After the arrest of a 28-year-old youth identified as Jitendra Singh from whose possession the police recovered a loaded pistol, the police came to know about the plot. He was hatching the plot along with three other youths at Circus Maidan under Golmuri police station.

Deputy superintendent of police (city) Animesh Nathani said that at about noon the police got a tip off that four youths had assembled at the Circus Maidan in Golmuri.

“We came into action and increased vigil. Soon  a police team led by officer-in-charge, Golmuri thana, Satyendra Kumar Singh raided the place.  But, at the sight of the approaching police, three of the youths managed to escape, but the fourth one was caught.  On frisking the police team found a pistol from the youth's waist. It was a loaded pistol and soon he was arrested," said Nathani.

The City DSP said the arrested was later identified as Jitendra Singh, originally a resident of Uttar Pradesh, but had rented a house on Road No 9 in Agrico under Sidhgora police station area. He said the arrested youth revealed the names and whereabouts of the remaining three youths who fled the spot. But due to security reasons they will not reveal the names.

Nathani said that as per the interrogation the gang which was being led by Jitendra was planning to loot a courier boy whose work is to collect money from  transport company offices at Transport Nagar in Mango and along the Dimna Road in Mango and get the money deposited in the bank.

“After we grilled him, Jitendra revealed that they had information that the courier boy collects money from as many as 30 transport offices and deposit the money in banks.

We have also come to know that one of the transporters might be in hand-in-glove with Jitendra Singh’s gang. One of the transporters who stay near Dimna Chowk was acquainted with the arrested youth.

We are investigating to find out whether the information reached to the criminals gang about the courier’s carrying so huge cash had been given by the said transporter,” revealed the City DSP. He said that they have increased vigil in and around the area.
