BJP, Cong move SEC over discrepancies in evaluation

A day after the State Election Commission (SEC) officially announced the panchayat poll results, opposition BJP and Congress on Mondaymoved the SEC alleging serious discrepancies in the evaluation of votes.

While a BJP delegation led by party vice-president Sameer Mohanty met the State Election Commissioner RN Senapaty and apprised him about the methods adopted by the ruling BJD to snatch away seats from them.

“Many of our winning Zilla Parishad candidates have lost their seats after the final counting. Government officials were involved in the process. Discrepancies in evaluation was happened in ZP number 29 in Dhauli, ZP zone number 28 in Khordha, zone 7 in Cuttack, zone 22 in Puri, zone 4 in Bargarh, zone 5 in Subarnapur and zone 17 in Balangir districts. Our candidates have lost in these places in 10 to 15 votes suspiciously,” said Sameer Mohanty.

A delegation of Congress leaders led by Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati also met the SEC complaining of forgery in counting which led to loss of party’s ZP candidates. While BJD topped the panchayat poll results claiming 473 Zilla Parishad zones BJP won 297 seats and Congress in the third spot with only 60 seats.
