The State Forest and Wildlife, labour and AYUSH Minister Harak Singh Rawat called upon the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in the national capital on Wednesday requesting development of Meerut-Kotdwar expresseway while also discussing other issues related to State interest. Gadkari also issued orders for declaring the Kandi Road (Gaindikhata-laldhang-Chillarkhal-Kalalghati-Pakhro-Kalagarh-Ramnagar road) a national highway.
Rawat informed Gadkari that the Meerut-Pauri national highway is an important highway for the Garhwal region. This 135 kilometres long national highway traversing the plain region from Meerut to Kotdwar has only two-lanes. If a four-lane expressway is constructed from Meerut to Kotdwar, it would boost the commercial activities in the Garhwal region, said Rawat. The Union minister accorded his approval to the proposal for the Meerut Kotdwar expressway and directed that preparation of the detailed project report and other necessary action be initiated in this direction. The union minister also directed that the Kandi Road be declared a national highway. Responding to a request made by Rawat, Gadkari directed officials of the ministry to link the Kotdwar to Srinagar road to the all weather road.
Rawat also requested the union minister to develop an international bus station at Kotdwar. Responding to this request, Gadkari said that on provision of required land by the State Government, Central Government will provide all possible assistance for the inter-state bus terminus at Kotdwar.
