CB to use digital forensics for evidence

Monday, 30 April 2018 | PNS | CUTTACK

The Crime Branch (CB), which is grilling the sole accused in the Patnagarh gift parcel explosion case Punjilal Meher is, due to absence of human witnesses, trying use of digital forensics to gather evidences to nail the accused.

The materials seized during the course of investigation would be sent to different national and international laboratories to establish involvement of Punjilal in the crime. His laptop would be sent for retrieval of important data that were reportedly deleted by him after committing the crime, said sources.

The CCTV hard disk of the DTDC courier service in Raipur would be sent to Israel to establish Punjilal’s presence in the video recordings. Besides, the anonymous letter sent by him to the Balangir SP to mislead the investigation process, would be sent to Gandhinagar’s forensic science laboratory.

“The letter is believed to be written by Punjilal, who must have used his saliva to seal it. The specimen will be sent for a DNA test,” informed the sources.

Earlier on Thursday, CB officials took Punjilal on a six-day remand.
