Dengue claims 1st life, Wazirabad teen victim

Dengue claimed first life in Delhi at Hindu Rao Hospital run by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC), sources said on Monday. The victim named Harshita (13) was a resident of North Delhi and was admitted in the hospital in a critical condition, a senior NMC official said.

“The patient died on September 18, however, it confirmed the death later,” the official said. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) confirmed the death in weekly report released on Monday.

The victim was a resident of Wazirabad and was brought to the hospital in critical condition, added the official.

Around 62 cases of dengue have been reported so far this year from the areas coming under NMC said the official. “In north zone, Chandni Chowk, Narela and Keshav Puram are the highly affected areas,” the official said.

According to the weekly report released by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday, around 507 fresh cases of dengue were reported last week, of which, 190 belonged to Delhi while in 284 cases the infection as acquired from other states but was reported in Delhi.

In 33 cases, the address of the patients was not revealed by the hospitals, the report mentioned.

As per the civic agency, it has sprayed around 20 lakh houses so far as part of the preventive measures taken by the civic body.

So far, around 2, 10,241 houses have been found positive for breeding of mosquitoes, 1, 69,512 legal notices have been sent and prosecution has been launched in 24,104 cases, stated the report.

This year so far, the total number of dengue cases reported in Delhi has gone up to 2694 out of which 1020 belong to Delhi, in 1450 cases, the infections have been acquired from other states and in 224 cases, details of the patients were not given by the hospitals. =====
