Wednesday, 17 October 2018 | PNS | Nainital

The High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the State Government to respond by October 22 regarding why Roorkee was left out of the local body election notification. The special bench of justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari issued this direction while hearing on a petition filed by the former mayor of Roorkee, Yashpal Rana.

In his petition, Rana has stated that the State Government issued the notification on October 14 and on the next day the State Election Commission announced the schedule for the local body polls. However, Roorkee municipal corporation was kept out of this. The petitioner has contended that polls should be held simultaneously in all the municipal corporations.

After hearing the petition, the special bench has sought a reply from the State Government by October 22 on why Roorkee was left out of the process.
