In Cuttack: 2 kids saved from canal; girl missing

Sunday, 07 October 2018 | PNS | CUTTACK

Two days after recovery of the bodies of two minor boys from Mahanadi waters, another mishap occurred in the adjacent Taladanda canal here on Saturday morning in which two minor children were rescued from drowning while a girl went missing.

According to police, two girls and a boy aged between 7 and 9 years of the nearby Chauliaganj area were bathing in the canal when one of the girls was swept away by a heavy current. Trying to rescue her, the two other kids also lost their balances and were swept away.

Hearing the cries of the children, a fish vendor, who was selling fish on the bank, plunged into the waters and managed to rescue the boy and one girl from drowning. “I managed to pull the two to a safer place but unfortunately failed to locate the third child,” said Pahali Samal.

Soon, forces from the two police stations located on either side of the canal rushed to the spot and requisitioned the services of an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force team to search for the missing girl. The girl was not traced till this report was filed late in the evening.
