PWD to construct flyover to ease traffic near Qutub Minar

Thursday, 22 November 2018 | GAYATHRI MANI | NEW DELHI

In order to ease the traffic flow near Qutub Minar red light, the Public Works Department  (PWD) has decide to construct a flyover. Once completed, it will make life easy for the people of South Delhi who travel  from Aurobindo Marg to Gurugram as the Public Works.

This particular stretch is infamous for poor road construction and heavy traffic congestion. The  construction of this much awaited flyover is likely to start from January of next year.

â€œThe plan has been approved by  Satyender Jain the PWD minister and the department is working on other modalities including proving alternative roads to the motorists as this particular area has  a round the clock trafffic.

Further, the flyover would get ready by 2020 until it encounters any problem in coordination from other civic bodies,” said a senior PWD official

As per the Delhi Traffic Police, a heavy jam on this stretch especially at the T-Point and signal near the Qutub Minar is a daily affair.

More than 7000 vehicles pass through this route per hour in the morning peak hours and in 4000 vehicles during the evening peak hours.

“It is one of the busiest routes of the National Capital and due to improper road designs of this stretch both the commuters as well as the traffic police faces a heavy time daily.

Also, the traffic unit has not observed a single day that vehicles cross this signal at one go after the green signal pops up,” said a senior traffic police official.

As per the plan, a four lane flyover will be constructed at South Delhi’s Aurobindo Marg on the Badarpur Road connecting the Qutub Minar and the Anuvrat T-point. “Once the flyover will be constructed, commuting will be easy on this route especially for the people who daily up and down to Gurugram and Aurobindo Marg.

We are getting many complaints from the people regarding heavy jams took place on this route.

Further, the Chattarpur Road T-point will be closed so that commuters travel from Gurugram to Chattarpur can take a u-turn from under the flyover avoiding heavy jams,” added the official.

The official further added that the proposal has been passed and construction on this flyover will start soon by the beginning of 2019.

“It is a good news for the commuters especially who use this route daily but happy news will be only if the plan will bore fruit.

Travelling on this route during the peak hours is like a nightmare as one have to wait hours to reach Gurgram,” said Vinay Kumar, software engineer who travels daily to Gurugram from Malyviya Nagar.
