A workshop on making of clay idols of Lord Ganesha was held on Sunday at White House Garden, opposite to the Raipur Municipal Corporation Headquarters.
Residents of Raipur were taught as how to make the “Mitti ke Ganesh†and develop the skill. Raipur Smart City Limited (RSCL) organised the programme. Many experienced artists from in and around the capital city, briefly inducted the participants about the ways and techniques of making a clay idol.
While addressing the participants and the audiences present in the workshop, Managing Director, RSCL, Rajat Bansal said that making the holy festival of ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ in a eco-friendly manner has been started from a couple of years in Raipur. Plaster of Paris (PoP) made idols have been totally banned.
He added there are many huge ‘Visarjan Kunds’ been developed in Mahadev Ghat for immersion of the idols as part of conclusion of the festivity. He further requested the people to use the ‘Kunds’ for immersion of idols.
Present on the occasion renowned artist of the city, Rakesh Pujari, explained the participants regarding use of cotton in the clay in which the idol is being made plays a vital role in structuring the idol in a strong way. The base mud in which the idol is been made need to be strong and tight enough to support the structure of the entire body. He added even a proper mixing of water in the clay is an art and is very useful parameter for the proper finishing of the idol.
Present on the occasion were volunteers and students from Kopalwani — special children’s school, NGO-Samarth, Smiling the Helping Hands, NSS, Gurukul College, Durga College, Chhattisgarh Nursing College, Bunch of Fools, Positive India, Lions Club Raipur Greater, Rotary Club, JCI Raipur, Ek Pehal Sewa Samiti.
