The State Government would implement a Sambalpuri dress code in colleges and schools from next academic session. This was informed by Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Minister Snehangini Chhuria here on Thursday.
The Sambalpuri dress code would be initially implemented for the students in colleges from the 2018-19 academic session. later, school students would wear Sambalpuri dress as their uniform in the second phase, Chhuria, who visited Sambalpur to attend a function, told media.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already been informed about the initiative to introduce the Sambalpuri dress code. Necessary documents are being prepared to implement the decision, she said.
Using Sambalpuri dress as the uniform in educational institutions has been a longstanding demand in the State.
Recently, Chhuria attending a seminar on “Sambalpuri dress code in educational institutions” had said a positive initiative was being taken by the Government in this regard.
With implementation of the Sambalpuri dress code in schools and colleges, the weavers in the western Odisha are expected to be benefited apart from promoting the handlooms in the market.
