SP asked to furnish report on rehab in four weeks
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the SP, Angul to submit a report on counselling, compensation and medical treatment to the victims of rapes/sexual abuse in the district within four weeks.
Acting on a petition filed by rights campaigner Radhakanta Tripathy, the NHRC took the step.
Tripathy highlighted three different incidents of sexual abuse, including how in one case, a girl had jumped out of a moving ambulance as the ambulance staff had attempted to rape her.
In another incident, a minor girl aged 5 years was raped by a 25- year- old man while she was on her way to school.
Lastly, in the third incident, the victim was talking to her friend when both of them were taken to a secluded place by the accused persons and the victim was gang-raped by them in front of her friend. The victim’s friend was also brutally beaten up.
The complainant sought the intervention of the NHRC and for a thorough investigation in the incidents.
The victims have not been provided medical care, psycho-social counselling and they have not been compensated.
Tripathy requested the NHRC to investigate the case and sought implementation status of Nirbhaya Scheme in the State and pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each victim and rehabilitate them properly after due counselling.
