Trivendra Singh Rawat: NIT will not be shifted from Srinagar

Thursday, 15 November 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat stressed that the National Institute of Technology (NIT) will not be shifted from Srinagar. A permanent campus will be established soon at Srinagar for the institute. After the urban local body election model code of conduct ends, a proposal to facilitate this will be brought in the cabinet meeting, said the chief minister. He also talked to the Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar regarding the issue on Wednesday.

The CM had a telephonic conversation with the Union HRD minister on the land and other issues related to NIT Srinagar.

Rawat informed that for establishing a permanent campus for NIT Srinagar, about 122 acre land near Sumadi has been identified. After the election model code of conduct ends, the government will bring a proposal in the cabinet for transferring this land in the name of NIT. He also clarified that a solution will be ensured to the hostel problem faced by students.

Till a permanent campus is established, a separate route will be made to the administrative and faculty buildings at Srinagar. With this, the students will not have to go via the national highway. Rawat further said that the politics being played on the NIT Srinagar issue is unfortunate. He stressed that the institute will not be shifted under any circumstances from Srinagar.
