A day after The Pioneer published an independent agency’s findings that listed the factors leading to the riots and police firing in Thoothukudi which resulted in the death of 13 persons, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy flew down to Chennai and had a lengthy meeting with Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan.
The meeting was about last week’s incidents at the port city of Thoothukudi believed to be schemed and fomented by anti-national elements and anti-social elements. “I told the Governor that anti-national and anti-social elements in the State have come together to make Tamil Nadu another Kashmir.
They are getting funds from neighbouring countries like Pakistan for this mission,” said Dr Swamy while speaking to reporters after the hour-long meeting.
The BJP leader said the Thoothukudi riots were masterminded, schemed and created by an axis of left Wing Extremists-Church-Islamic Extremists and Tamil Chauvinists especially the Dravidians.
He pointed out that the campaign against Sterlite Copper was just a façade for their heinous intentions to make South India a riot and conflict zone. “The Centre and State Governments should take up this issue as a major challenge and ensure that peace and normalcy is returned to the State at the earliest,” said Dr Swamy.
The BJP MP also said that the government order closing down the Sterlite Copper was not sufficient. “It is too late to ask the Sterelite management to shut down the unit and leave Tamil Nadu. The ideal thing to do is punish the Sterlite Copper management for the ecological and environmental damage the company has caused. If the factory is shut down, thousands of people will become unemployed and the industrialisation process of the State would suffer a major setback,” he said.
The Edappadi Palaniswamy led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu got a mall pat on th back from the BJP leader whose opposition to the Dravidian politics is well know.. Dr Swamy said the AIADMK government in the State was doing better than its predecessor , the DMK government. “But it as to work well and for that the government has to do a lot. I do not see any future for the DMK,” he said when asked about the future of the party led by the Karunanidhi clan.
Interestingly, the BJP leader refused to comment about Rajinikant’s visit to Thoothukudi and his encounter with the media. “My stance on cinema and politics remains the same. Film stars should not dabble in politics because politics is a different world ,” said Dr Swamy.
